Dyno is used by clubs that work with children. This statement explains, in plain language, how children's accounts are protected, how to raise a concern, and what parents and guardians control.

The two kinds of children's account

  • Child accounts: created by a parent or guardian, who must confirm they are the child's parent or legal guardian and consent to their data being processed. A child account has no login of its own. The parent or guardian acts for the child.
  • Teen accounts (ages 13 to 15): can sign in, with the restrictions described below. Whether an account is a teen account is worked out from the date of birth.

What a child account cannot do

  • Send or receive direct messages with anyone, including staff.
  • Appear in member search.
  • Post or comment on club feeds.

A child's promotions are also never suggested as a post on a club feed.

What a teen account can and cannot do

  • A teen can only send direct messages to staff (owners, admins, managers or coaches) of clubs they belong to, not to other members.
  • A teen is hidden from member search for anyone who does not share a club with them.
  • In clubs where posting is limited to adults, a teen cannot post or comment on the club feed.

Adults-only feeds

A club can limit feed posting and comments to members aged 16 or over, from Settings, Privacy, Limit posting & comments to adults. For clubs in the swimming, gymnastics, dance, football or music categories this is on by default. The club has to turn it off deliberately, and the setting explains what that means.

Raising a concern

  • Report a user: from their profile or from a chat in the app. Reports go to Dyno's team to review.
  • Raise a safeguarding concern: from the menu on a club's page in the app. This is separate from an ordinary report. It notifies Dyno's platform administrators and, if the club has named a safeguarding lead, that lead. The club's owners, admins and managers can see it in their dashboard.

Safeguarding concerns are listed ahead of ordinary reports in Dyno's review queue.

What guardians control

  • A guardian books, pays and signs waivers for their child, and receives the child's notifications.
  • In the app, Settings, Family, What can my child see and do on Dyno? explains in plain language what a child account can and cannot do.
  • A guardian can view and update their child's emergency contact, medical notes and photo & media consent on the Welfare & consent screen in the app.

How we keep this true

The protections above are enforced on Dyno's servers, not only hidden in the app. The messaging, search and feed restrictions are covered by automated tests, and we keep an internal record of where each protection is enforced and tested.
